Burn ban updated

— Yesterday a Stage 2 burn ban was declared for all of Yakima County. It’s an upgrade over a Stage 1 ban the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency’s air pollution control officer previously declared.

This burn ban was called due to inversion from heavy fog this morning, lack of wind and expected poor ventilation. During a Stage 2 burn ban all outdoor burning, including agricultural burning, is prohibited.

Also, the use of any fireplace, wood stove or fireplace insert is prohibited, unless it is the only source of heat.

All violations of the burn ban are subject to civil penalty. Agency officials note restrictions may differ within the exterior boundaries of the Yakama Reservation.
