A Yakima woman is recovering from injuries sustained when her van crashed after it left the interstate last night.

Mary L. Walker, 37, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 82, Milepost 76 in a 2006 Toyota Sienna at about 5 p.m. when she struck another vehicle and went off the roadway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Her van traveled down an embankment before coming to a stop.

The other vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, was driven by Miriah A. Martinez, 38, of Prosser.

Walker was transported to Prosser Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Martinez was left unscathed, according to troopers.

The State Patrol said Walker’s vehicle was towed, but Martinez’s was drivable.

Troopers say the cause of the crash was negligent driving second degree. Walker has not been charged as of press time.

Both drivers were reportedly wearing seatbelts, and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors to the crash, according to the State Patrol.
