While water storage and precipitation are way up compared to last year, a dwindling snow pack isn’t good news for irrigators.
During the Sunnyside Division Board of Control’s meeting this past Tuesday, it was noted that storage sits at 166 percent of the 30-year average for this time of year and precipitation is 99 percent of average.
However, the snow pack is just 41 percent of average. At this same time in 2014, the snow pack stood at 57 percent, storage at 116 percent and precipitation at 67 percent.
Dave Bos, SVID’s assistant manager for operations, told the board there is hope for the coming watering season. He said February and March temperatures are expected to drop and precipitation is expected to increase.
