Chamber awards nominations sought

Who do you think deserves recognition as a Sunnyside hero? The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce wants to know.

Nominations are now open for a variety of outstanding community individuals as well as businesses and community beautification projects, according to Pam Turner, chamber executive director.

Those chosen for the “Spirit of Sunnyside” honors will be guests of honor at the annual “Spirit of Sunnyside” community awards banquet to be held Saturday, March 14, at the Sunnyside Community Center.

Turner said the banquet is an evening set aside as an opportunity to honor a handful of the many community members who “… go above and beyond to make Sunnyside a better place to live.”

Among the outstanding community recognition categories are pioneer (past or present), health care person, educator, business of the year (a person or business open for at least six months), public official/employee, businessperson, youth, beautification project (business or home property), volunteer and hero.

The deadline for nominations is March 3.

The banquet’s no-host social and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will culminate the evening, Turner said.

Tickets for the banquet go on sale, Tuesday, Feb. 24, and are $30 each.

Nomination forms are now online at the chamber website, (www.sunnysidechamber.com.).
