Gospel fest returns Sunday

MABTON – A monthly tradition in the Lower Valley for more than 15 years, the first Gospel music jamboree of 2015 is this Sunday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m.

The jamboree will again be held at Grace Brethren Church in Mabton, 428 B. St.

The featured group this month will be “The Joyful Noise.” They have participated in the jamboree since the beginning.

The group consists of leader Carl Smotherman on guitar, accompanied by his grandson, Levi. Other members are drummer, Paul Houts; bass and trumpet player, Michael McGhan; along with singers Kathy McGhan, Rita McGhan, Kathy Martin and Dawn Barker.

All are welcome to attend the jamboree and musicians are invited to participate during an open mic time.

The Gospel music jamboree is free of charge, with a free will offering available at the door.
