The strains of Pomp and Circumstance will be heard throughout the Lower Yakima Valley during the first weekend of June. That’s when local high schools will hold their commencement exercises to celebrate the graduating classes of 2015.
Clem Senn Field will again be the site of Sunnyside High School’s graduation ceremony on Friday, June 5, at 8 p.m. The SHS class of 2015 will feature two valedictorians – Payton Sample and Lindsay Schilperoort - who both will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average.
The class speaker, a faculty member requested by the SHS graduating class, will be Eric Lindstrand.
Sunnyside Christian High School has four seniors tied for valedictorian honors; Annie Brouwer, Shaylon Struikmans, Tim Foster and Luke Wavrin. The SCHS quartet will lead the 21-member strong class of 2015 during commencement exercises set for June 5 at 7 p.m. at Grandview Church of the Nazarene.
Teacher James Rylaarsdam was selected by the SCHS graduates as their featured speaker.
Approximately 60 Mabton High School seniors are expected to receive diplomas on June 5, when the school holds its commencement exercises at 7 p.m. at Mel Todd Gym.
Class valedictorian is Isabel Rojas-Penafiel. Salutatorian for Mabton’s class of 2015 is Francisco Chavez.
Mabton’s class speaker will be teacher Scott Sexton.
Bickleton’s commencement exercises will be held Sunday, June 7, at 2:30 p.m. in the school’s gym.
A total of six seniors will graduate, led by valedictorian Lindsay Brown and salutatorian Kelsey Spalding.
Grandview High School will hold its commencement exercises at Rich Leenhouts Stadium on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m.
Leading the GHS class of 2015 will be valedictorian Kimberly Van Horn and salutatorian Monica Bobadilla.
As with Sunnyside High, GHS officials said it’s too soon to know a firm number on the size of their respective graduating classes.
