Sunnyside Christian earned the championship of District 5 by defeating tourney host Bickleton in four sets.

Bickleton started the match out strong with a 25-22 win in the first set, surprising the defending district champions.

The Knights came back after trailing Bickleton for much of the second set, finally winning 26-24.

The Bickleton Pirates made Sunnyside Christian earn every point in the final two sets, which the Knights won 25-22, 25-19.

"I'm super excited," Knights Coach Stephanie Dalrymple said of her team's fifth consecutive district championship.

"I'm very proud of the way the girls dug deep and fought back. We were down every set but came back. It says a lot about these girls and how much they wanted that No. 1 seed."

Bickleton will play Lyle-Wishram to determine the final team from District 5 headed to the state tournament. Lyle won a loser-out match against Klickitat-Glenwood, 25-19, 26-24, 25-21.

The Top 2 teams in District 5 will head to Yakima on Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14, for the state volleyball tournament.
