Sunnyside girls come up short

RICHLAND – The Sunnyside volleyball team at this past Saturday’s season-opening jamboree hosted by Richland tried a few different line-ups, but came up short of a win in the six-team competition.

First-year coach Jamie Palmer said the team’s closest match was a 25-23 loss to Kennewick.

“The jamboree was a great opportunity for us to try new line-ups and prepare for the upcoming season,” Palmer said.

Seasoned veteran Maloree Kupp stood out among her teammates with 11 kills total at the jamboree.

Teammate and fellow veteran Madison Marro recorded five blocks.

Each of the games, said Palmer, was played to 25 points.

Sunnyside also competed against Pasco, Richland, Hanford and Chiawana.

The Lady Grizzlies this coming Thursday will travel to Prosser for a non-league match.
