Miss Grandview candidates take center stage

— Six high school juniors will vie Saturday in a bid for royalty.

Candidates for the Miss Grandview 2016-17 court are Kimberly Regis, Destanie Morales, Cristina Aguilar, Brieceida Ramos, Areesa Trevino and Alondra Perez.

They will compete in a pageant at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Middle School, 1401 W. Second St.

Aguilar said she’s been watching the Miss Grandview competition since middle school.

“I decided to enter because it’s a new, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.

Morales said family ties got her interested in becoming Miss Grandview.

“I’ve been there with my cousin,” she said. “I like the way they are out in the community and representing the city.”

Ramos said she likes the opportunity for community service and the chance to represent the city.

Regis said her desire to be Miss Grandview is all about helping people.

“I want to be someone who helps make the community better,” she said. “And I want to expand my own ways of seeing the world.”

Trevino said Grandview is underrated and she wants a chance to show off her city.

Perez, said she wants to be Miss Grandview to represent the community’s diversity.

The pageant will provide candidates an opportunity to perform a talent, answer questions and participate in skits.

The evening will also be a farewell for the 2015-16 Miss Grandview court.
