Donate blood, save lives

— The American Red Cross, in observance of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, May 8, is encouraging the public to support the organization with a donation.

As blood donors, people ensure blood is available for patients in about 2,600 hospitals served nationwide by the Red Cross.

In Yakima during the month of May, the Yakima Blood Donation Center, 302 S. Second St., will be open most days from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A blood drive at Yakima Valley Community College, 16th and Nob Hill, is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9.

Every day, the Red Cross must collect approximately 14,000 blood donations to meet the needs of patients across the country.
