One candidate, Kurt H. Hilyard, was also a finalists for the top schools job in Sunnyside

— The School Board has selected three finalists to be considered as the next superintendent.

The three finalists are:

  • Henry M. Strom, currently Mount Adams School District superintendent in White Swan
  • Kurt H. Hilyard, currently Union Gap School District superintendent in Union Gap. Hilyard was also a finalist for the Sunnyside School District superintendent job.
  • Shannon M. Criss, currently Winlock School District superintendent in Winlock

All three oversee school districts with 1,000 or less students, School District officials said, noting they also have a high percentage of students in free or reduced-price meal programs.

The School Board is looking for a replacement for Superintendent Kevin Chase, who was hired by Educational Service District No. 105 as its new superintendent, effective July 1.
