Junior rodeo queen ready to ride Friday and Saturday

— Greeting junior cowboys and girls to the 48th annual Toppenish Junior Rodeo this weekend will be Rodeo Queen Adrianna Hoekman, 18.

The daughter of Geffrey and Patty Hoekman of Zillah, she has been practicing to be a rodeo queen since she first learned to ride.

Friday night, the 2016-17 Junior Rodeo Queen will welcome riders to the rodeo to be held at the Toppenish rodeo grounds, 600 S. Division St, for the 4:30 p.m. opening.

Hoekman will also welcome riders to the annual Rascal Rodeo Saturday morning at 10 a.m., an event arranged for special needs individuals.

The Junior Rodeo will continue Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. with contestants from all over the region vying for prizes and bragging rights.

Hoekman is also an active rodeo participant, competing in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping.

She is also a member of the Central Washington Ropers and Riders Association and Washington State High School Rodeo Association.
