PROSSER A local woman fell asleep at the wheel and crashed at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, the Washington State Patrol said.
Nancy S. Rose, 37, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Interstate 82, three miles from Benton City when her vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and flipped, coming to rest on the driver’s side, troopers said.
Rose was injured and taken to Kadlec Medical Center. The Tahoe was deemed a total loss.
She was charged with second-degree negligent driving, the State Patrol said.
In an unrelated crash at 4:32 p.m. Friday, a Yakima woman was injured when her 2008 Chevrolet Malibu flipped, troopers said.
Katherine Yelechchin, 22, was traveling eastbound at milepost 80 of Interstate 82 when her car entered the median and flipped, the State Patrol said.
She was injured and taken to PMH Medical Center, troopers said.
Yelechchin was charged with driving with her wheels off the roadway, the State Patrol said.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors in either crash, troopers said. Both women were wearing seatbelts.
