— Sunnyside Christian’s lone diver, Parker Van de Graaf, claimed sixth-place honors at 2A state swimming competition last Friday and Saturday.

Van de Graaf posted a score of 282.05 in the finals. In previous rounds at the King County Aquatic Center, the Knights diver wsa fourth in the preliminaries at 151.6, and fifth in the semifinals at 221.

His effort gave the Knights 13 points for a team finish of 31st place. Anacortes was the 2A and under state champion with 231.5 points.

Also competing at the 2A WIAA Swimming and Diving State Championships were five local swimmers.

The Grandview relay team consisting of Tavian Valenzuela, Micah Binfet, Angel Morales, and Westly Lakins competed in the 200-yard medley relay. The team placed 24th with a clocking of 2:03.50. It was an improved showing over their qualifying time of 2:05.91.

Valenzuela also competed in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 24.06.

Binfet earned 12th place in the 100-yard breaststroke, just narrowly missing out on the finals. He clocked in at 1:05.10 bettering his qualifying time by .81 seconds.

Prosser had one swimmer participate at state, Levi Russell in the 100-yard backstroke. He finished in 22nd place with a time of 1:02.72.
