For the first time since 2010, Washington state’s minimum wage earners will not receive a pay increase.
In 1998 voters approved Initiative 688, requiring a cost-of-living adjustment to the minimum wage based on the federal consumer price index.
The first wage increase in 1999 was 55 cents, raising minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $5.70 per hour.
Minimum wages increased to $9.47 on Jan. 1, 2015, and will remain at that rate for the coming year.
