Law needed to allow impounding vehicles

The newspaper is doing the right thing by once again publishing police and court reports. It gives readers some of idea of what is going on.

But what is rather frustrating to a lot of us is reporting that shows how many are driving without insurance, as well as no drivers’ license, while the rest of us carry insurance.

To add insult to injury, a lot of them do not pay their fines. The last time I checked, Sunnyside had $4 million in uncollected fines and Yakima County had over $30 million in uncollected fines.

The city and county always want the taxpayer to pay more. I think that they should collect the money that has been adjudicated by the court.

The solution is relatively simple — pass a law to immediately impound a vehicle that has no insurance or license. Otherwise, our court system is a joke.

While the law-breakers are laughing, taxpayers are crying. We will never see the day when criminals have to pay instead of the taxpayers!
