SUNNYSIDE — A Sunnyside woman is in jail for allegedly assaulting her children.
Sgt. Kent Coffman this morning confirmed Linda Cruz Flores, 33, was arrested Friday morning after local school officials reported child abuse.
Flores had allegedly burned one of her children with a spoon that was held to a hot griddle, Coffman said.
During the investigation, police found a second child’s hand had been held to the hot griddle, according to Coffman.
Both incidents occurred during the winter break, he said.
Flores was charged with two counts of second-degree assault of a child and appeared for a preliminary hearing in Yakima County Superior Court the same day, according to court records.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported she is being held on $20,000 bail.
Her children told police using the griddle is a common form of discipline in the home, according to the report.
An older child said he had been burned before, the report said.
Flores’ daughter said she was taken into her bedroom by her father during one of the two winter break incidents, according to the report.
Both boys burned during the winter break exhibited marks from their injuries, the report said.
Her four children are currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.
