Roslyn City Park is the site of the annual Vintage Trailer Rally each June, attracting campers from British Columbia to California.

— Once abandoned in favor of modern land yachts, the pudgy little camp trailer is making a comeback.

The light-weight compact vacation homes on wheels once filled the highways tagging along behind space age looking station wagons.

The 15- to 19-foot trailers, with such names as Shasta, Silver Streak and Aristocrat, until recently were often abandoned in fields or outbuildings, left as homes for vermin and mice.

But with such organizations as the Vintage Camper Trailers and the popular television program, “Flipping RVs” detail restoration of campers have renewed the appeal of the little treasures.

There are books and even a magazine that share knowledge about how to restore and maintain these mid-century travelers.

The most fun however, once the campers are restored is decorating them with all things retro and the kitschy the better.

Pink flamingos are all the rage when it comes to mid-century decorating. Even a long forgotten typing stand can find new life as bar cart.

A recent tour of campers at the annual Roslyn Vintage Trailer Rally showcased more than 100 campers in various stages of restoration.

The rally, is the third weekend of June at the city park. There is no charge to visit the trailers, in fact the owners encourage visitors to step in and admire the unique decors, from hunting lodge to sleek modern interiors.
