SEATTLE Gov. Jay Inslee is asking federal authorities to stop what he called “unsafe oil transport.”
He met with Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Sarah Feinberg on Friday to discuss the recent oil train derailment in Mosier, Ore., options for curtailing oil train transport of Bakken crude through Washington state and the need to speed up and strengthen numerous oil train and track safety requirements.
The agency’s preliminary inspection report issued Thursday indicated Union Pacific, the company whose train derailed, did not adequately inspect railroad tracks and that an electronic braking system would have resulted in fewer derailed cars.
