SELAH The defending state 2A football champion Mustangs will be facing an uphill battle tomorrow following a double-overtime loss last night.
The Selah Vikings edged the No. 5-ranked Prosser Mustangs, 39-36.
Prosser was up 21-3 at halftime, but seeded four unanswered rushing touchdowns to the Vikings in the fourth quarter at Karl Graf Stadium. Selah posted a field goal in double overtime to seal the come-from-behind win.
The loss puts Prosser in a three-way time with Othello and Selah for second place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference, all tied at 7-2. Prosser defeated Othello, 27-14 on Oct. 28. Selah lost to Othello, 20-13, on Sept. 16. And all three teams have lost to Ellensburg, which gets the No. 1 seed from the league.
The teams will break the tie at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grandview High School. The winner will earn the No. 2 seed. The second-place tiebreaker finisher will be No. 3 and the loser will be out.
At state are two crossover positions for Nov. 8 football playoff games.
The winner of the tiebreak will host West Valley (Spokane) on Nov. 8; the No. 3 seed will head to Pullman.
