Alzheimer’s group town hall

State plan focus of gathering

— The state chapter of Alzheimer’s Association will have a town hall in Yakima County.

The event is 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday in the Yakima Convention Center Ballroom, 10 N. Eighth St.

It is one of 14 town halls planned in Washington state and northern Idaho.

The focus is the state’s plan to address Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The plan includes having Alzheimer’s and dementia a part of state and local government planning.

The plan also calls for increasing the number of research participants, increasing the quality and availability of paid aides and reducing the burden of long-term care on families and the state.

“These town halls are an effort to continue the attention of state officials to the importance of addressing the challenges of better supporting people with Alzheimer’s and those who care for them,” state association Executive Director Bob Le Roy said.

The town hall is free and no pre-registration is required, Le Roy said.
