YAKIMA The Sunnyside High School swim team fell 67-124 to West Valley yesterday.
In spite of the loss, the two divers for the Grizzlies — Lia Anderson and Alex Dorton — won first and second-place honors, respectively. Anderson scored 145.8 and Dorton had a score of 117.9.
There were several runner-up finishes for Sunnyside.
The 200 yard medley relay A squad clocked 2:20.48, while the Rams’ A team tagged the end of the pool in 2:14.00.
Sunnyside’s Brielle Newhouse was nearly two seconds behind West Valley’s Micaela Smith in the 200 yard freestyle event. Newhouse’s time was 2:25.63 and Smith’s was 2:23.22.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Newhouse tagged the end of the pool in 30.00, nipping the heels of Bella Vickers of the Rams (29.62).
Kendall Rickey of West Valley edged Gillian Mayer of Sunnyside, with a time of 2:33.80 in the 200 yard individual medley. Mayer finished in 2:34.28. Kylah Bunch of the Grizzlies earned third-place honors in the same event.
Erica Linde of Sunnyside was edged in the 100 yard butterfly event by Lauren Alderman of the Rams. Linde’s time was 1:20.27, while Alderman tagged the edge of the pool in 1:15.56. Clarissa Calderon clocked 1:20.71 for the Grizzlies, garnering third-place honors.
Smith took top honors for the Rams in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.92. Clocking a second-place time of 1:07.82 was Sunnyside’s Morgan Gardner.
Third place honors were earned by Gardner in the 100 yard breaststroke event, and Sunnyside’s 400 freestyle relay A team.
Points for fourth place were also earned by Linde in the individual medley, Allison Davis in the 500 yard freestyle, Bunch in the 100 yard backstroke and Arizona Rodriguez in the 100 yard breaststroke events.
The Grizzlies travel to Moses Lake on Oct. 6.
