PROSSER Gingko Forest Winery of Mattawa is the newest addition to the Wine Village scene, and its become entrenched with a move into the Winemaker’s loft.
Gingko Forest will be celebrating with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
This is Ginkgo Forest’s third tasting room location. The original is located at the vineyard in Mattawa and. There is another in Old Town Tacoma.
“It’s crazy busy,” Gingko Forest Manager Charlie Guthrie said. “It was absolutely the right move.”
The ribbon cutting celebration will start at 5:30 in the evening. Appetizers will be provided by the Ciao Wagon. And there will tasting of several Ginkgo varietals for those in attendance.
The ribbon cutting by the Prosser Chamber of Commerce will be at 6 p.m., with local business owners and officials invited to attend and participate in the festivities.
The open house style event continues until 7:30, allowing plenty of time to view the new tasting room, try Ginkgo’s unique wines, and socialize with the business community.
Gingko Forest opened here on July 29. Guthrie and owner Mike Thiede and staff have done all they can to take advantage of the setting.
Today there will be an industry open house from 5:30-7 p.m. to which other winemakers are invited. There will be food, music and wine tasting, Guthrie said.
Gingko will celebrate again on Aug. 26 with its official grand opening. There will be music all day, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The merry-making will continue from 6-9 p.m. with a private event, Lounging at the Loft, for 21 and older.
Ginkgo Forest wines are made with hand-harvested grapes from estate grown, expertly tended vineyards on the sunny Wahluke Slope.
This famed appellation is an isolated, south-facing landform, which overlooks the Columbia River. Desert heat and loamy soils create the perfect grape-growing conditions.
Wine developed from 16 grape varietals give guests a wide array of award-winning wines to sample, including reds, whites, blends, rosès, dessert and port-style wines. Gingko Forest Winery’s selection of port-style wines make them unique in the Prosser area.
