Man injured Friday in two-car crash

— A Sunnyside woman and a Mabton man were injured Friday just after noon when their cars crashed into each other and Highway 241, about a mile north of Mabton.

Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision, the Washington State Patrol said, and both drivers were using proper restraints.

The Mabton man is Rafael Sanchez, 75. He was driving a tan 2000 Nissan Altima four-door. He was taken by ambulance To Sunnyside Community Hospital.

The Sunnyside woman was Alejandra Morfin Ixtas, 22. She was driving a black 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer four-door. She was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital by ambulance.

Sanchez and Mofrin Ixtas were southbound. Sanchez slowed for another vehicle, and Morfin Ixtas’s car struck the Sanchez car from the rear.

Both vehicles sustained reportable damage. They were impounded by Helberg Towing.

The Patrol said the cause of the accident was “following too close. It cited Morfin Ixtas for following too close.
