Associated Press releases Top 10

— Sunnyside Christian and Prosser are two Lower Yakima Valley football teams ranked in the Associated Press’ Top 10 for the start of the season.

The Knights are ranked No. 5 among the 1B teams this week with 40 points, and the Mustangs are No. 10 in the 2A rankings with 19 points.

The Top 10 in the 4A classification includes, in order of rank, Camas, Sumner, Richland, Gonzaga Prep, Graham Kapowsin, Bothell, Wooinville, Skyview, Lake Stevens and Chiawana. Skyline was the only other team to receive 6 or more points.

In the 2A rankings, Archbishop Murphy, Lynden and Tumwater were ranked Nos. 1-3. Liberty (Issaquah) tied with Ellensburg for the No. 4 spot, and Nos. 6 and 7 are include Burlington-Edison and Sedro-Wooley. There is a also a tie for No. 8 between W.F. West and West Valley (Spokane). North Kitsap had 18 points and Fife garnered 10.

In the 1A state poll, teams in order of ranking are Royal, Connell, LaCenter, Mount Baker, Cascade Christian, Montesano, Deer Park, Meridian, Colville and Nooksack Valley. Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) had 14 points, Zillah garnered 13, Freeman was awarded 12 and Okanogan claimed 10 points.

Teams ranked in 2B football are Napavine, Toledo, Kalama, Liberty (Spangle), Asotin, Pe Ell Willapa Valley, Adna, LaConner, Northwest Christian (Colbert) and Lind-Ritzville. Ilwaco, Rainier, Life Christian Academy, Dayton, Colfax and Lake Roosevelt also received 6 points or better.

Atop Sunnyside Christian in order of ranking are Lummi, Neah Bay, Almira-Coulee-Hartline and Odessa-Harrington. Tacoma Baptist received 21 points and Odessa had 10.

The Associated Press only ranks the Top 5 in 1B classification.
