SUNNYSIDE The Sunnyside girls wrestling team hosted the Central Washington Girls Wrestling League Match on Tuesday, defeating two teams.
The Grizzlies defeated Eastmont, 60-24, and Quincy, 66-12.
Also competing in the event were Mabton, East Valley (Yakima) and Toppenish.
The Grizzlies boys traveled to Eastmont High School and also defeated the Wildcats, 56-6.
In girls action, Eliza Sandoval pinned Eastmont’s Shayanne Chang in 2:42 at 100 pounds.
Sandoval won a forfeit against the Jackrabbits.
Roxsanna Cisneros (105) was next on the mat. She pinned Daniella Hernandez of Eastmont in 2:41.
She won the Quincy match via forfeit.
At 110 pounds, Aaliyah Chavez took just 19 seconds to defeat Eastmont’s Aisha Mondragon via fall.
She also won a forfeit against Quincy.
Alicia Vargas, at 115 pounds, won both the match against the Wildcats and the the match against the Jackrabbits with forfeits.
Jasmine Rodriguez of the Grizzlies won both 120-pound matches via pin. She pinned J’da Gonzalez of the Wildcats in 1:10 and the Jackrabbits’ Alexis Mondragon in 58 seconds.
The next Grizzlies grappler to take out her opponent via fall was 125-pound Riley Guerrero. She eliminated Kaylani Gomez of the Wildcats in 1:15 and had a win by forfeit against Quincy.
Mireya Sanchez (130) also won her match against the Wildcats via pin in 1:07. Her opponent was Sheila Cardenas. Sanchez won her second match via forfeit.
At 135 pounds, Jayda Denson of the Grizzlies won two forfeits.
Nathalia Lopez was the first of the Sunnyside wrestlers to lose a match. The 140-pounder was pinned by Jewel Sinclair of the Wildcats in 32 seconds, but won a forfeit against Quincy.
Cheyann Rendon (145) of the Grizzlies got a 30 second pin against Maria Sanchez of the Wildcats. The Sunnyside wrestler also pinned Quincy’s Luz Diaz in 1:21.
Sunnyside’s Daniella Duran lost both 155-pound matches. Flora Morrow of Eastmont won via fall in 1:31, and Briana Cordova of the Jackrabbits also won via pin in 1:57.
Lourdes Torres won her 170-pound bouts for the Grizzlies. She pinned Eastmont’s Hailey Chang in 4:39 and Quincy’s Brenda Salgado in 1:56.
The Grizzlies forfeited both 190-pound matches.
At 235 pounds, Jenna Martinez won the match against Eastmont via forfeit and the Grizzlies forfeited to Quincy.
All six Vikings got in on the action at Sunnyside High School.
Daisy Padilla (115) won her only match via pin in 3:40 over Sunnyside’s Alexia Castillo.
Angel Reyna competed in two 120-pound bouts, losing via a third-round pin to Jennessy Mercado of the Grizzlies in 45 seconds and suffering via fall in the second round to Alana Newton of East Valley (Yakima).
Aaliyah Delgado, Vikings 145-pounder, pinned Summer Jones of Eastmone in 1:45.
Two 155-pound bouts were won by Victoria Valencia of the Vikings. She pinned Luz Diaz of Quincy in 1:35 and Escarlette Alcaide of Sunnyside in 3:25.
The Vikings have two girls wrestling at 190 pounds — Sandra Urbina and Reyna Huecias.
Urbina pinned Anayeli Rodriguez of the Wildcats in 1:30, and Huecias won a 3-2 decision over Reyna Valdovinos, also of Eastmont.
The Grizzlies boys won all but two matches against the Wildcats on Tuesday.
Sunnyside had four pins, two major decisions and forfeited two matches.
The first pin was at 120 pounds. Andrew Macias defeated German Jimenez of the Wilcats in 3:05.
Isaiah Lopez (195) pinned Luke Harrison of Eastmont in 6:22.
At 220 pounds, it took just 40 seconds for Daniel Huizar of the Grizzlies to pin Alan Ortega.
The 285-pound bout was over in 4:38. Jector Ramirez won by fall over Eastmont’s Christian Tonga.
A 12-0 major decision was won by Sunnyside 126-pounder Jose Campos in his match agains Louis Arellano.
Grizzlies’ grappler Austin Villanueva (132) won the other major decision, 26-0, over Damian Vivanco.
Sunnyside’s won forfeits at 106 and 113 pounds.
At 145 pounds, Izaiah Gonzalez defeated Eastamont’s Adrian Vivanco with a 5-0 decision.
Anthony Moyer of the Grizzlies won a 10-9 decision over Landon McClune of the Wildcats in the 152-pound weight class.
Josiah Rodriguez of the Grizzlies defeated 160-pound Wildcats grappler Cesar Mendoza via an 8-1 decision.
The final win for the Grizzlies was at 182 pounds. Moises Morales won a 7-0 decision over Brett Womach of the Wildcats.
The two losses for Sunnyside were at 138 and 170 pounds.
Cesar Sitio of the Wildcats won a 4-2 decision over Nathan Davila in the 138-pound match.
Alan Ochoa of Sunnyside lost a 7-5 decision to Josh Hill of Eastmont.
Only one Vikings boy competed last night at the Kittitas Express Invitational.
Jesus Mata, 285 pounds, won both his matches via pin at the tournament.
He defeated Pedro Castaneda of Wahluke in a second-round pin.
In the finals, Mata pinned Jesse Jensen of the Warriors in 1:20.
