What Christmas means to me

Donna Homer

Christmas to most people, including me, is the most important holiday of the year. It is important because, for one thing, during this season there is so much love expressed. Everyone seems to have warm feelings for each other. They strive to cook things others like, they reach out to the less fortunate to help them have a good Christmas, they try hard to buy gifts that others will enjoy, and they gather in their homes to share more than the gifts and food, but the joy of being together. They go about their days singing songs of joy and wishing everyone a “Merry Christmas” It is a joyful time.

But the next most important thing to realize is that this day is being celebrated because over 2,000 years ago God wanted to show his love for us. He did this by sending his only begotten son to the Earth to lift our lives above sin, sickness, and death. His son, Jesus said of his mission “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Now exactly what did this mean? Well first Jesus chose 12 students or disciples. Why? Because he needed help to spread the truth to this world. He not only taught them about healing, forgiveness and love, but he demonstrated it.

He healed everyone who came to him. He forgave them, Mary Magdalene, for one. She was forgiven when he saw her repentance and sorrow. The adulteress woman was forgiven and saved from stoning. He raised the dead. Lazarus, who was dead for four days, was a prime example.

Then after teaching and demonstrating, He sent them and 70 others out at another time, to do the same thing. He stated, “Ye shall know the truth and the truth will make you free.”

The truth, I believe, is that God creates and sends only good. He is the only power and when we spiritually understand this, - the liar - Satan will have no power over us to cause sickness, sin nor death.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science, dug deeply into the science of healing, studied, taught and demonstrated by healing that God is the only power and sends only good.

Today, there are many Christian Science practitioners who spend their time healing.

Through knowledge of truth, I, myself, have had healings of depression, accidents, colds, strokes, the flu, etc.

Along with the Bible, I studied Eddy’s book Science of Healing and Health with Key to the Scriptures to lead me into a life of health, love, strength and forgiveness.

So, I am doubly joyful that God sends us his messengers to teach us of His loving care. And, the main teacher, Christ Jesus, whose birthday is again being celebrated this Christmas.

So be joyful, and let God lead you to a more happy, free life by embracing his laws of dominion over errors of every kind.

We have the example and the tools. Let’s use them to conquer hate with peace, sickness with health and death with eternal life.
