Lower valley teams ranked in Top 5

— Both the Leopards boys and girls basketball teams are currently sitting among the Top 5 in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1A Rating Percentage Index.

The boys are No. 5 with a 6-1 record behind No. 1 Newport (5-1).

The girls are No. 4 with an 8-0 record as of yesterday. Lynden Christian was No. 1 with a 6-0 record.

Granger’s boys were ranked No. 34 (7-3), and the girls were No. 16 (5-3).

The Prosser girls basketball team is also in the Top 5 in the 2A RPI. The Mustangs are 8-0, and East Valley (Spokane) is No. 1 with a 9-0 record.

Wapato’s girls are No. 5 with a 7-1 record, Grandview is No. 34 and Toppenish is No. 36.

In boys 2A, Toppenish is No. 8, Grandview is No. 36 and Prosser is ranked No. 41. Anacortes is currently No. 1 with a 6-0 record.

In 1B boys, Yakama Tribal and Sunnyside Christian are Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Bickleton is No. 47.

The Eagles are 8-1 and the Knights were 7-1, but still had a game to play as of press time.

Pomeroy was No. 1 with an 8-0 record.

In girls 1B, Colton was No. 1 with a 7-0 record, Sunnyside Christian was No. 16, and Yakama Tribal was ranked 22nd.

The Mabton boys were not listed among the first 59 2B teams ranked, but the girls are currently ranked No. 23 with a 6-2 record behind No. 1 Ilwaco (9-1).

In 4A rankings, Sunnyside’s boys are No. 11 with a 7-1 record. Gonzaga Prep was at the top of the rankings list with a 10-0 record.

The Grizzlies girls were No. 12 with a 5-2 record, while Eastlake was No. 1 with a 9-0 record.
