Annual wild bird event on tap Saturday

— The Friends of Mid-Columbia River Wildlife Refuges is hosting its fifth annual winter birds event at McNary National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will take place at the McNary National Wildlife Refuge Education Center, 64 Maple St.

Activities will include guided birding tours led by refuge staff and the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society. Blue Mountain Wildlife will provide information about owls and raptors.

Wildlife films and commentary by Gaylord Mink will be presented and photographer Ivar Husa’s work will be on display.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event sponsors will have their annual meeting from noon to 1 p.m.

The public is invited to attend and learn about the organization, its role in the National Wildlife Refuge System and how to become a member.

Food and beverages will be provided.
