WAPATO The high school will be the host site for tonight’s 2A district play-off between the Prosser and Toppenish boys basketball teams.
Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
The Mustangs defeated Ephrata, 70-48, in the first round of district play Friday.
The team lost the following night’s game to the Selah Vikings, 56-74.
Coach Ryan Allen said his team would need to aggressive against the Vikings if it was going to win.
“If we try to be one-dimensional, will will have a tough time against Selah,” he said following the win against the Tigers.
Against Ephrata, he said the team posted a collective effort and contended the offensive strategy.
Scott Blakney scored a game high 34 points against Ephrata — 9 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Teammate Nate Brown scored 12 points.
Against the Vikings, Blakney scored 24 points and Brown tallied 18.
The Prosser girls won their first district game Saturday, downing East Valley (Yakima), 36-30.
The win advances the Mustang girls to Friday’s 5:30 p.m. game against Wapato.
The location was not available at press time.
Against the Red Devils, Marissa Cortes led Prosser with 10 points. Teammate Ali Cox tallied 9. Brooke Wheeler hauled in 12 boards.
The team was 10-for-27 from the free throw line and only made 2-of-18 3-point baskets.
It was a tightly contested game with neither team being able to score a basket in the third quarter.
East Valley’s leading scorer with 11 points was Kaileigh Dietrich-Denton.
