SUNNYSIDE Two Lower Yakima Valley boys basketball teams are in the Top 3 in the Ratings Percentage Index.
The final index of the statewide rankings released Monday has Sunnyside Christian listed No. 2 in the 1B polls with an 18-2 record. No. 1 is Neah Bay with a 17-3 record.
Yakama Tribal was among the Top 5 in the rankings with a 14-5 record.
The Knights compete Friday at Grandview High School in a loser-out regional play-in game. The district co-champion Eagles will compete at 3:30 p.m. in Montesano. The winners of those games advance to regionals.
Also in the Top 3 for its classification is 1A Zillah. The Leopards are No. 3 with a 19-1 record. Freeman clinched the No. 1 ranking, also with a 19-1 record.
Zillah and league rival Granger are both competing in district playoffs Saturday. Granger is No. 20 in the polls.
The Leopards play La Salle at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Wapato High School.
The winner earns the No.1 berth at state, and the loser will be No. 2.
The Spartans compete against Wahluke the same day at 4 p.m. in the same venue.
The winner earns a state berth, the loser ends its season.
In the 2A polls, No. 13 Toppenish and No. 30 Prosser are two of the remaining Central Washington Athletic Conference teams scheduled to compete for a state berth. No. 5 Selah and No. 9 Wapato compete for the district championship Friday, but are guaranteed state berths.
The Mustangs host No. 1 Clarkston at 6 p.m. Saturday in a loser-out glue crossover game. The Wildcats travel to No. 4 Pullman to compete in the other loser-out glue crossover.
The final ratings percentage index lists Union as No. 1 among the boys 4A teams. Davis is the only Big 9 team to secure a Top 10 ranking at No. 3.
Sunnyside ended its season No. 41 in the polls.
