EAST WENATCHEE The Mabton girls stayed alive in the postseason Saturday, topping Tonasket, 56-47, in the Eastmont High School gymnasium.
Information on the game was not available. But Mabton’s win gave the Vikings the final district seed into the post season.
The No. 9-seeded Vikings, 16-6, advance to regional play at 2 p.m. Saturday against No. 16-ranked Friday Harbor Wolverines, 10-12.
The teams will square off at Davis High School, 212 S. Sixth Ave., Yakima.
The victory over the Tigers came one day after Mabton fell to Walla Walla Valley Academy 41-35.
Coach Chris McCallum called Friday a “rough night shooting” for his girls.
“Need to bounce back tomorrow in a loser-out game,” he said, prior to the game against Tonasket.
Against the 17-7 Knights, Caitlin Rojan has a game-high 11 points. Teammate Britee Guerrero added 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals.
Walla Walla Valley Academy was paced by Titi Graham with 9 points. Other Knights posting points included Willa King with 8, Cole and Gabrielle Browning 7, Nicole Bennett-Gomes 6, Sarah Dybdahl and Alissa Hendrickson, 2
For Mabton, Astrid Galarza also posted 7 points, Rieley McClallum, Ivett Sanchez and Michelle Zavala 2 and Naemi Galarza 1.
The Knights opened the game with a 9-5 first-quarter lead, but Mabton tied it at 19 by the half.
The Knights reclaimed the lead, 28-25, at the end of three and expanded it in the fourth quarter to 41-35 to win the game.
The No. 14-seeded Knights also earned a postseason berth by dunking Mabton. The Knights play the No. 11 La Conner Braves, 20-2, at 8 p.m. Saturday night in the gymnasium at Mount Vernon High School, 314 N. Ninth St., Mount Vernon.
