Mustang girls top Ellensburg, 45-40

— Despite being held to just 2 points in the second quarter, the Mustang girls held on for a 45-40 victory over league rival Ellensburg last night.

Prosser jumped on the score board first and raced to a 22-11 first quarter lead after stepping up its full- court press.

But the Bulldogs turned the tables in the second quarter, posting 12 points while holding Prosser to 2.

The 24-23 Prosser advantage at the half was as close as Ellensburg would get.

In the third, Prosser scored 5 points and Ellensburg 4. In the fourth, Prosser added 16 more and Ellensburg 13.

Asia Olivarez and Marissa Cortes each scored 12 points for the Mustangs and teammate Brooke Wheeler posted 11.

Wheeler also had 14 rebounds and Ali Cox had 12

Senior Sierra Smith and junior Avery Fisk each put up 10 points to lead Ellensburg.

The Prosser boys also hit the court last night against Ellensburg.

The Mustangs won 71-52, improving their record to 7-3 overall, 5-3 in league.

Nate Brown had 7 points for the Mustangs in the first quarter. Other game details were not available.
