OTHELLO Sunnyside took third place Saturday in the two-day Othello Girls Invitational wrestling tournament.
Sunnyside, with 144.5 points was powered by two individual champions — Stephanie Blankenship at 105 pounds and Aylin Bautista at 170 pounds.
The host Huskies won the team title with 212 points.
Other Lower Yakima Valley girls teams competing included Kiona-Benton, ninth with 86 points, Granger 13th with 67 points, Grandview 22nd with 42 points, Toppenish 23rd with 40 points, Prosser 30th with 28 points and Zillah 34th with 26 points.
Blankenship won her first match Friday by pinning Casey Ozuna of Warden in 4:24. On Saturday, she pinned another Warden opponent in the second period.
Blankenship faced a familiar competitor — Maria Reyes of Grandview — for the title, and won 9-2.
Blankenship is currently ranked No. 1 at 105 pounds in the state and Reyes is No. 2.
Bautista pinned Briana Harris of Enumclaw in the third period on the first day of action to advance to the semi-final match.
She pinned Victoria Mendoza of Othello in 1:28 and finished Saturday’s action with the title after pinning Adriana Silva of Decatur in 1:08.
Bautista is ranked No. 1 at 170.
Sunnyside had three third-place medalists — Maggie Torres at 235 pounds, Cece Guillen at 110 pounds and Lupe Navarro at 170 pounds.
The Grizzlies’ Lourdes Torres placed sixth in the 155-pound weight class.
Mireya Sanchez and Jada Benson earned eighth-place honors in the 120 and 125-pound weight classes, respectively.
The Grizzlies are currently ranked No. 3 among all girls wrestling teams in the state.
Individual results for the Prosser, Grandview, Kiona-Benton, Zillah and Granger teams weren’t reported.
