— A local woman was injured Thursday afternoon when his minivan was struck broadside by a Ford 350 pickup.

Araceli Valezquez, 34, was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital shortly before 1 p.m. for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash at East Edison Avenue and state Highway 241, the Washington State Patrol said.

The driver of the pickup, Horacio A. Oropeza, 47, of Mabton, was not injured, the patrol said.

Valezquez was westbound on Edison Road when he failed to stop and entered the path of Oropeza, the patrol said. The southbound pickup hit the Chevrolet Venture in the passenger side.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash, the patrol said. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Valezquez was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way; his vehicle was removed from the scene by Kay’s Towing, the patrol said. Oropeza was able to drive his pickup away from the crash scene.
