OLYMPIA Two bills requiring “safe”storage of firearms were introduced in the Legislature last week.
Senate Bill 5463 was introduced by Sen. Guy Palumbo, D-Maltby, and House Bill 1122 was introduced by Rep. Ruth Kagi, D-Seattle.
The bills would provide for charging hunters and other firearms owners with “community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm” if a gun is stored in a place known or accessible to children.
Gun owners could also face charges under the legislation if anyone barred from possessing a firearm knows the storage location or can access it.
