TOPPENISH Law enforcement has taken into custody a suspect for a homicide investigated Friday.
Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies and Yakama Nation Tribal Police were called to the 200 block of Wanity Park Drive for a report of a deceased man found inside a residence there.
Det. Sgt. Mike Russell of the sheriff’s office said it appeared the man was stabbed multiple times.
The man was identified as Basil Emmons, 68, and an unidentified 38-year-old male family member was taken into custody Saturday.
Emmons was determined not to be a member of a Native American tribe, and the investigation was taken over by the sheriff’s office.
The suspect was located with help from a detective in Wapato and the Violent Offender Task Force.
He is being charged with first-degree murder, Chief of Detectives Ed Levesque said in a second press release.
The suspect is in custody at the Yakima County Jail.
