A weekend of cribbage play planned

— Hundreds of cribbage boards will fill the tables at local VFW post as American Cribbage Congress enthusiasts settle in for multiple rounds of cribbage this weekend.

Organizers have planned a Mid-Week Challenge Tournament, which opens tomorrow at the Sunnyview VFW post, 615 North Ave., at 6:30 p.m.

Cribbage tournament fans and players from all over the region will be in town for the event, local crib master James Morrow said.

The challenge event is the warm-up for the 16th annual Summer Classic, which gets underway Thursday at 8 a.m. with the first of 22 games and nine qualifying games.

For the next four days, players will play to make it into the championship rounds, or into the consolations playoffs held on Sunday.

Morrow said draws for seats will be at 8 a.m. Thursday. The Main event begins at 9 a.m. and games continue into the evening.

Players will play to the American Cribbage Congress rules.

Morrow said the Summer Classic is the biggest cribbage tournament held locally.

Visitors are welcome to watch, but are discouraged from interfering with the players.
