Collect outstanding fines before licensing

When renewing my license, I asked if people who had unpaid fines were still allowed to renew. The answer was, “Yes.”

Does anyone realize that there is on the books in Yakima County more than $30 million in uncollected traffic fines? These fines have been adjudicated, but not collected.

I would like to have a law proposed that you cannot renew a license until all fines have been paid. And if you are caught driving without a license or insurance, your vehicle is immediately impounded.

If you add up the unpaid fines for the state, I can only imagine the amount of money it would be.

Is it too simple of a solution for the people who want to raise our taxes rather than figure out how to collect fines?
