State action under way

— Three teams from the Lower Yakima Valley area are in the 1B and 1A state softball championships at Kiwanis Park today.

The Kiona-Benton Bears faced Colville at 10 a.m. and the Zillah Leopards played Montesano at noon.

The Bears will compete against the winner of the Chewelah/Cle Elum game at 4 p.m. if they win. The losers of the two games will play at 2 p.m.

Zillah will face the winner of the Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls)/Lynden Christian game at 4 p.m. if it wins. The losers play one another at 2 p.m.

Both consolation games will be loser-out affairs.

The first pitch of today’s opener for the Knights was at 1 p.m. on Field 4.

They play the winner of the Wishkah Valley/Colton game at 5 p.m. on Field 4, if they won. If they lost, they face the loser of the same game on Field 2, also at 5 p.m. in a loser-out game.
