Man shot in Wapato on Thanksgiving Day

Police seek community assistance

— Law enforcement agencies are still investigating a Thanksgiving morning shooting on South Wapato Road.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred about 2:49 a.m. in the 2000 block.

“The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot victim,” a statement released by Sgt. Chad Peterschick said.

“Deputies responded to the address and were assisted by the Yakama Tribal Police and Wapato Police Department.”

Responders arriving on scene found a 26-year-old man, identified only as an “adult Indian male,” had been shot at least once, Peterschick said.

“The victim was later transported to Virginia Mason Hospital in Yakima for treatment,” he said.

An incident report released Friday said the suspects fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement and they had yet to be apprehended.

“This incident is still under investigation,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 509-574-2500 or Crime Stoppers of Yakima at 509-248-9980.
