GRANGER It was a night to celebrate football of all kinds for the Spartans on Friday.
“We won our homecoming game against Mabton,” Granger assistant soccer coach Karla Rojas said.
The Spartans soccer team celebrated a 5-0 win prior to Friday’s homecoming football game.
Julie Salgado scored the first goal of the match in the 6th minute after a pass from Cecilia Ornelas.
In the 21st minute, teammate Anahi Collas found the back of the net without direct assistance from a teammate.
With 5 minutes left in the first half, the Spartans were on the attack again. Collas delivered the ball to Maya Daniel, who booted it between the crossbars much to Vikings’ keeper Britnee Guerrero’s dismay.
The Spartans had a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
The momentum in favor of the home team carried into the second half.
Yaneli Torres scored two goals. The first was delivered into the back of the net in the 49th minute, and the second shot was made with 4 minutes on the clock.
Keeper Jasmin Rodriguez denied the Vikings on two scoring attempts.
Guerrero kept the ball from making it past the crossbars 2 times.
The Spartans had 7 scoring attacks.
