YAKIMA Saturday was a big day for swimmers representing Grandview, Prosser, Sunnyside and Zillah.
Grizzlies diver Lia Anderson garnered a second-place finish with 135.6 points, behind Emma Fischer of Davis, whose dives were worth 137.75 points.
Another couple of second-place finishes were earned by Chloe Messmore and Makayla Koerner of the Leopards.
Messmore clocked a time of 1:15.41 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Nicole Gonzalez won the event in 1:14.74.
Koerner’s time in the 100-yard freestyle was 59.10, .18 seconds behind Kahlani Schloss of Davis.
Koerner, Messmore, Elie Sandoval and Mara Sandoval teamed up for the 200-yard medley relay and earned fourth in 2:08.86.
Sunnyside’s Kylah Bunch, Brielle Newhouse, Arianna Sanchez and Allison Davis were fifth with a time of 2:12.88.
Prosser’s team finished in 2:25.00 for 9th in the same event. Members of the team were Rachel Blount, Abbigail Albreicht, Rachel Forrister and Brooklyn Shultz.
A second Grizzlies team — Gillian Moyer, Bailey Hazzard, Clarissa Calderon and Morgan Gardner — was 11th in 2:27.22.
Felicia Pena, Caitlin McGhan, Adri Graff and Jasel Perez of Grandview were 12th in 2:35.95.
In the 200-yard freestyle race, Pena was the fastest among the Lower Yakima Valley teams, clocking 2:39.05 for 11th place.
Messmore had the best time among the lower valley swimmers in the 200-yard individual medley. She finished in 2:40.47 for ninth place.
Davis had the best time among her lower valley counterparts, racing for a time of 29.13 in the 50-yard freestyle, earning seventh place.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Forrister bested the lower valley swimmers, earning 10th place in 1:17.20.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Kaitlyn Ott of Prosser had the fastest lower valley time for 11th place, clocking 7:20.19. She qualified for the district meet with that time.
Newhouse, Davis, Sanchez and Bunch combined for a time of 2:02.11 for fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Koerner earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking 1:08.41. The winner of the race was Jackie DeGrasse of Eisenhower in 1:04.55.
Sunnyside had the only lower valley 400-yard freestyle relay team — Moyer, Jamie Stanton, Arizona Rodriguez and Mackenzie Bates. They combined for a time of 5:44.48, good for ninth place.
The Grizzlies were fifth overall with 121 points. Eisenhower won the meet with 299.5 points.
Zillah had 85 points for seventh, Prosser was ninth with 19 points and Grandview was 10th with 10.
