Volleyball teams kill it in three sets

Sunnyside Christian, Granger and Prosser all defeated their opponents in three volleyball sets last night.

The Knights defeated Yakama Tribal 25-5, 25-15, 25-13; the Spartans defeated Goldendale 25-18, 26-24, 25-17; and Prosser defeated Othello 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

Sunnyside lost in three sets and Grandview lost in four.

Yakama Tribal 0, Sunnyside Christian 3

Leading the Knights with 11 assists, 10-12 serving, an ace and 8 digs was Destiny Fonseca. Madison Bosma was 14-14 serving with 2 aces, 5 kills and 3 digs; Sailor Liefke was 12-12 from the service line with 4 aces and 6 kills; Alyssa Martin was 7-8 serving with 3 aces, 4 kills, 9 digs and 10 assists; Emily Banks had 6 aces, 9 kills and 2 blocks; Krista den Hoed was 12-13 with 3 aces, 6 kills and 8 digs; and Madi Candanoza delivered 6 perfect passes and 5 digs.

Goldendale 0, Granger 3

The Spartans were led by the Roettger sisters — Kaitlyn and Naya.

Kaitlyn Roettger was 14-14 from the service line with 12 digs and 10 perfect passes, and her older sister Naya Roettger was 7-7 serving with 29 assists and 10 digs.

Nizhoni Tallman had 18 digs and 24 perfect passes; Sophie Blodgett had 7 kills, 10 digs and 14 perfect passes; Lily Stewart had 19 kills; Emma Stewart was 8-8 serving with 6 kills and 2 blocks; Christina Ruiz had 6 digs and 7 perfect passes; Gali Birrueta had 6 kills and Delilah Schneider had 4 kills.

Prosser 3, Othello 0

The Mustangs came out ahead of the Huskies with 11 kills and 10 digs by Kylie Colson, Ashley Ripplinger’s 9 kills and 5 blocks, Leah Blakeny’s 3 kills and 7 blocks, 3 kills and 13 digs from Jenna Schnellbach, 12 digs provided by Brandi Groeneveld, Haley Meirndorf’s 5 blocks and 1 kill, 4 aces served by Anahi Milanez, and Kayla Lind’s 20 assists and 14 digs.

Sunnyside 0, Eastmont 3

Although the Grizzlies suffered an 18-25, 16-25, 10-25 loss, there were bright spots.

“The girls came out right away, playing with a ton of heart and energy,” assistant coach Jill Spini said.

Kiana Hellner-Gomez had 3 blocks, 2 kills, 8 digs and 2 aces; Miriam Galvan had 6 blocks and 2 aces; Naila Rodriguez had 15 digs; Mercedes Zavala had 3 kills and Jessica Appleby had 2 kills.

Grandview 1, Ephrata 3

The Greyhounds were led by Bailey Duis’ 25 kills and 8 blocks in the 23-25-25-22, 23-25, 23-25 battle against the Tigers.

Teammate Cassidy Eucker had 21 digs and 2 aces; and Alexandra Garcia provided 28 assists.
