Grandview man charged in molestation

— A local man appeared in jail yesterday after allegedly touching his step-daughter inappropriately.

Miguel Rangel Jr., 36, was charged with second-degree child molestation, court records show. He was being held in the Yakima County Jail on $20,000 bond.

According to charging documents, Rangel allegedly put his hands down the pants and up a shirt of a seventh-grade student. The allegations came to light when the girl went to a Grandview Middle School counselor to learn about rape.

School officials notified authorities, who then contacted the girl’s mother, court records show.

Police also interviewed Rangel, who denied the allegations, records show.
