I am writing asking you to vote to retain Jeff Matson as a Port of Sunnyside commissioner.
Port districts are authorized in the state for the purposes of acquisition, construction, maintenance, operation, development and regulation within the district of harbor improvements, rail or motor vehicle transfer and terminal facilities, water transfer and terminal facilities, air transfer and terminal facilities, or any combination of such transfer and terminal facilities, and other commercial transportation, transfer, handling, storage and terminal facilities, and industrial improvements.
The mission of the Port of Sunnyside is to develop, diversify, broaden and strengthen an economic base throughout the Port District in an environmentally prudent manner.
As a municipal corporation, the Port of Sunnyside is regulated by state law with bonding authority and taxing power. A Port commissioner has the responsibility for setting policy to guide the development, growth, and operation for all port facilities and functions and are accountable personally for their actions under state law.
As an experienced accountant and currently serving port commissioner, Jeff brings experience to the position that can only be matched by very few in the state. His personal integrity, knowledge and hard work have brought many successful projects to fruition for the constituents within the Port of Sunnyside.
It has been my privilege to know Jeff through our interaction and work with the Washington Public Ports Association. As current president of the Port of Kennewick, should Jeff reside in our district I would be greatly honored to have him serve with me as a fellow commissioner. His unselfish manner in serving those he represents is a quality that should be held in the highest regard for anyone elected to represent others.
I encourage you to vote for Jeff Matson.
