— U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA) participated in a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony at Emancipation Hall in the U.S. Capitol in honor of Filipino veterans of World War II.

Rep. Newhouse was joined by his guest, Rey Pascua of Sunnyside, the President of Filipino-American Community of the Yakima Valley.

“It was my privilege to welcome Rey Pascua to represent our local Filipino-American community out of gratitude for his efforts to assist veterans and their families.” Newhouse said.

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian honor that Congress can bestow.

Newhouse was a co-sponsor of companion legislation passed in the House, H.R.2737, Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015.

“It is never too late to show our nation’s gratitude. Today’s ceremony was about honoring the sacrifice of Filipino and Filipino-American veterans—including those from Central Washington—who answered the call to service in World War II.,” Newhouse said.
