SUNNYSIDE Two people are facing unrelated charges for allegedly stealing motor vehicles before being apprehended by local police.
Rebecca McNanna, 31, was booked into the city hail for third-degree theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Ramon Lopez Jr., 23, was arrested and booked for first-degree possession of stolen property.
Lopez was arrested Thursday after Yakima County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of VanBelle and Scoon roads when the owner of an ATV spotted it being towed by another vehicle.
Deputies responding to the call stopped Victor Garcia Virrey and inquired about the ATV, records show. The driver said he was asked by Lopez to tow it for him, records show.
They then contacted Lopez, who said had purchased the vehicle off a “Facebook swap site.”
The ATV was reported stolen last Wednesday, court records show.
In an unrelated vehicle theft, McNanna was booked into the city jail after being arrested at 6:01 p.m. Thursday following a reported shoplifting incident at Rite Aid, 2010 E. Yakima Valley Highway.
At the time of her arrest, McNanna was in possession of a white 1995 Oldsmobile Ciera reportedly stolen out of West Richland, court records show.
She appeared in Yakima County Superior Court on Friday and was officially charged with third-degree theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, court records show.
McNanna allegedly told police she had borrowed the car from a friend, records show.
