Port of Grandview to review Byam projects

Byam has become a hot business site

— The Port of Grandview Board of Commissioners will have a Special Meeting at noon today at 1313 W. Wine Country Rd., Suite 101.

The purpose of the Special Meeting is to receive a recommendation from the Port Engineer and accept a bid for the Byam Business Park Irrigation Drainage Reclamation Project,

Also on the agenda is approval of a contract with Cascade Natural Gas for the installation of a natural gas main in the Byam Business Park and to approve a warrant.

Recently, business has been booming in Byam.

This month alone, four businesses announced plans to build in Byam Business Park.

Two weeks ago, Portland, Ore.-based Henningsen Cold Storage announced plans to build a $30 million, 142,000-square-foot cold storage facility.

The announcement followed a celebration earlier in the month announcing plans by Indian River Transport, Bestebreur Brothers Construction and Fast Mobile Service to build there.

Henningsen will build on 26 acres off Stover Road. It will pay $1.3 million for the property for a three-phase cold storage facility, officials said.

The new cold storage facility comes as Indian River Transport is finalizing plans to build a new transport terminal for its bulk-grade food service tanker fleet on 5 acres in the business park.

The Indian River terminal is expected to open in the fall of 2018, officials said.

Bestebreur Brothers Construction of Sunnyside, purchased 3 acres of property on the west end of Byam Business Park. The company has been in business since 1958 and works on projects ranging from commercial construction to civil and industrial projects.

The company plans to build a new shop and office on the Port property and move its home office to Grandview by Thanksgiving.

Glenn Bestebreur of Bestebreur Bros. Construction said his company looked at property throughout the Yakima Valley and found the Port of Grandview property to be a good value.

Fast Mobile Service L.L.C. was started by David and Fatima Ruelas in 2005. The business has been located in Sunnyside for the past 12 years.

Fast Mobile is a diesel mechanic shop specializing in service and repair of large trucks and farm machinery, as well as fleet maintenance and repair and offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance.
