The new apartments are on a man-made shelf in view of the elaborate houses at Eagles’ Nest atop Cherry Hill.

It took a little longer than he expected, but Paul Almanza of JN One Construction has his 30-unit apartment construction project in Granger under way.

Almanza and his wife, Julie, will be landlords of the apartments. They sold other holdings for some of the financing of this project.

They still have a 6,000 -square foot home on 7.5 acres on Cherry Hill up for sale.

The new apartments are being built on the southwestern skirt of Cherry Hill. There will be 15 buildings of two apartments stretching on a long line, end-to-end.

The Almanzas thought they would be further along with the project, but infrastructure installation took longer than expected.

“There was a lot digging,” Almanza said.

Almanza said most of the buildings will have two

living units of 1,200 square feet of space. They will be 2-story apartments. There will be others with more than 1,300-square feet.

“Some of them will depend on the lay of the lot,” he said.

Almanza had hoped to rent out his first apartments around April. That didn’t happen until July.

Almanza said his company is renting the apartments for $1,100 per month, with and $800 deposit. The first two are rented, and he sees no trouble renting the rest.

“Every time I have a place available, someone is there looking for a place to live,” he said.

One reason he’s confident is the location. Every apartment will a view of the Yakima River, the green Satus farm country and the mountains beyond.
